Summary

Leonard accepts an offer to go on a platonic date to the movies with Penny, but when he refuses to exhibit the familiar deference to her that he formerly displayed to her as her boyfriend to make her amenable to sex, such as which movie to see or paying for both of them, the friction this causes leads to a war of oneupmanship throughout the evening. When they get home, Penny reveals that she actually likes Leonard's more assertive demeanor, which Leonard manifests in the belief that he may get sex after all, but he ruins his chances by reverting at one point to his more timid personality.
